For someone who was such a magpie of other peoples musical styles, David Bowie could be stunningly original when he put his mind to it.
He was probably the most influential musician in the UK during the 70's and 80's, when more people started bands because of listening to him than anyone else. And certainly the greatest exponent of Rock Theatre ever.

I was reading an old comment of yours over at the Bright Side of the Sun, where, as the "resident classical Greek scholar", you referenced the "Stygian stables". While I am no scholar, I believe you meant "Augean stables". And yes, I have no life. Thank you.

sorry allen.. my reply was not quite right. They are often referred to as the Stygian stables, even though you are in fact correct.
my mistake. And the use of the phrase "resident classical Greek scholar", was indeed meant ironically.
